The Association funds research into the cause, treatment and an eventual cure for MND:
- It funds 14 Care Centres countrywide to provide coordinated care for people with MND
- It provides a free equipment loan service for certain specific items
- It provides training for Health and Social Care professionals
- It administers over 80 Branches, all run by Volunteers, the sharp end of our organisation.
- It seeks to influence our policy and decision makers to obtain improved care and services
- It works to heighten awareness of MND in the minds of the public and our legislators
It provides strong local support and advice through the medium of:-
- REGIONAL CARE DEVELOPMENT ADVISERS (RCDA), whose knowledge of MND enables them to work closely with the local Health and Social Care professionals and, of course, with the local Branches.
- BRANCHES, whose Branch Contact and trained Association Visitors are ready to visit or, by phon, to offer friendly support and advice. Many cared for theit own loved ones and so gained valuable insight into the needs of people with MND and those who care for them.
- VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT COORDINATORS (VDC), area based, who provide advice and support to Branches and Volunteer Groups, encourage and help set up new Branches and Groups and assist in recruitment of new Volunteers.
